In 2017 we are organising courses in the largest city in the South East of England outside of London, Southampton.
Southampton is one of the UK’s greenest cities, with 10 large parks and the Common, which covers an area equivalent to 163 football pitches! Just over an hour from London, a short distance from the Isle of Wight, Bournemouth and Winchester, its location also makes it easy to travel to Europe and beyond either by ferry or from the city’s nearby airport. The city has a strong sense of history and heritage. Medieval walls nestle among modern developments to create a unique waterfront environment.
It’s famous for its global maritime role, primarily as a major trading port, but also as home to some of today’s greatest ocean liners, container ships, yachts and private boats. It is also the city from which the ill-fated Titanic sailed on its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912 with 2,223 people on board. Of the 1,517 that lost their lives, more than a third, 549 of them were from Southampton. 2012 will mark the centenary of that tragic event.
The course will take place at Southampton Solent University which is well positioned in the centre of the vibrant city centre. The main campus is set opposite one of the elegant parks that are dotted throughout the city. Everything is within walking distance and lessons, meals and some activities will take place on the main campus.
